John Deere LX176 drive belt

Is this a tough job or pretty simple? Only repair shop near me is like 20 mile away.

Not as bad as some JDs but does requires paying careful attention how things are in place as springs, idler pulleys, and the electric PTO clutch must be removed in order to remove and install a new belt. If unsure of your memory takes pictures before removing anything and as you go and use them as you put things back. You will need a heavy spring hook to re-attach the spring(s). Of course you do this with the deck off.

Hi Man

To add to what KE4 has said, there's a trick to taking the belt off the transmission input pulley (the one with the plastic fan). Lift the left side of the belt up and tuck it between two of the fan blades, now rotate the fan backwards by hand while feeding the belt above the fan blades. By the time the fan has made ¾ of a rotation, the belt will just fall into your hands. Use the reverse procedure to install the new belt. You will also need to disconnect the drag link from the pitman arm as the belt is routed either side of the steering box. Best of luck,
