When did Tecumseh go to soild state ignition?

Postby creia » Sat Oct 14, 2017 9:23 pm

For their small engines like a H50, HS40, H35, etc. what year did Tecumseh do away with points and condensers and switch over to an external coil and solid state ignition. I see to remember it was sometime in the 1980s...

I think that by 86 points were all done in production. Solid state entered at the same time the whole blade stoppage thing began with 1983 models on verticals , but the snow engines still were points in 1985. 1986 snow engines were solid state. Possibly it lingered for a few years if it wasn't a popular model.

Thank you hanz63- your reply was appreciated. :)
I have a 1983 Tec Hs40 in inventory that is (still) points and condenser, so maybe it was in the mid 1980s?
(I was hoping that some of the other "old timers" on here would have chimed in as well...)

If you peak in the back of the 4 cycle technician's manual , I'm pretty sure the small frames reference a date code somewhere around 83 under the points section. I don't exactly know if that meant it was the anticipated change over date or ? HS came with points in 85 equipment models is all I know on these in particular.
