Postby mulch » Mon Oct 23, 2017 12:47 pm

Hello all

I have a student with a craftsman engine 143574042. We are looking for a service manual. We did not find it reference in the craftsman - Tecumseh chart.

Any suggestions

Thanks

143.574042 is a Tecumseh H35; sorry don't have the spec number.

Are you absolutely certain about that Sears Craftsman #? I have every Craftsman/Tecumseh cross reference every published and that number is not listed on any of them. Is this a horizontal shaft, "L" (flat) head engine? Can you post a photo of it?

It is a valid number - comes up on sears parts direct website with parts catalog. Tecumseh did not do the best of jobs keeping track of those model cross references. n

Great got it. We will be fine without the spec#
Thanks

Ya I looked through every cross reference and double check the model stamp and nothing. I thought that it was a bit odd for it to not show up but yes we did find a parts list through Sears so I knew it was a correct 143. #

Thanks guys

And you better keep a heads up on them old H35's.

Some of the crankshafts are different which also results in the timing different on some due to the difference in cranks.
(and if you set the timing wrong it won't run very good and very hard to eventually get started, etc. ;)

I think the L head service manual shows the two different H35 timing specs in the rear of the manual, but you have to have all the numbers off the cowling to know which one you need to reference. :o

Yes they are different. It is easy to figure out though as it is the stroke that is different with the head off. '82 and prior had a stroke of 46.8mm and 1983 models had 49.2mm on the points version then they went with external electronic ignition which also had the 49.2mm stroke.
