Has anyone ever of this happening?

Postby KE4AVB » Sat Nov 25, 2017 8:25 am

Personally I think it is virtually impossible but a member of another forum that I am member is reporting the following:

Got a 150BT backpack leaf blower that randomly starts by itself, unattended.

150BT Backpack Leaf Blower starts randomly, by itself. The machine has been sitting in the garage unused for a couple weeks now. Wife told me that the leaf blower is running. I can't hear very well, I go check the leaf blower and its not running. Today wife tells me the leaf blower is running, sure enough, the leaf blower is running. I've never seen anything like that. The leaf blower will at unpredictable times, completely randomly, will start, run for twenty seconds or so then stop.

It wont randomly start now because I pulled the cable off of the spark plug. First question, is there something I'm doing wrong with this machine? But anyway, I thought you guys might want to know about this one.

Definitely sounds someone is trying to pull the wool over the members and Husqvarna's eyes.

If it was an easy start it just might have enough compression to turn over and might start if it was warm but hard to believe without choke after two weeks. Then again I guess that's why they call them easy starts. Hahaha

Exactly what I told him to do BGS. I would have seen it to believe that one myself.

Thinking on it for a while, It is within the realm of possibility for that to happen but there'd be several conditions that would have to be just about perfect - more likely if it is one of those spring-assist starters and it is stored in a place that experiences sizable temperature swings and either an inoperative shut off switch , or one of those Momentary contact shut-off switches (common on the lower end models if it is anything like the box store weedeaters)

It'd have to have virtually perfect compression and the engine would have to stop at a particular point close to TDC - thermal expansion of the air trapped in combustion chamber could be sufficient to make the engine rollover - if in reverse,it would work against the start assist spring in the recoil, which then might be enough to cause it to bounce back enough to fire once, or if forward, it may move just enough to create a spark to fire a slight amount of leftover fuel vapor trapped in the cylinder, but as noted, conditions would have to be absolutely perfect and if the guy had the luck to have it happen twice , I'd suggest he should go buy a lottery ticket and then buy a REAL machine.

Those aliens abducted his blower and brung it back in good working order. They just might pay okie and Ke4avb a visit and take care of some pest and help out with the daylight savings time over in the break room.

That still not going to help me with the winch I ran over Saturday. I destroy the end cap that antique Warn winch so I be buying the customer a new winch. I forget the bumper wasn't bolted on. Boy what a stupid mistake. Please don't kid me about it I feel bad enough already.

But back to the blower he could be that he is being visited by gremlins. In the years I been working on equipment I have never heard such a problem with a gas engine.

Now with electronics I can and have seen some very strange things to happen. I had calculator once that while on would start operating on their own as someone was pushing the buttons, my customer was so afraid of that we had to replace it. My most recently crazy type electronic problem was my digital caliper that I couldn't zero or turn off. It turn out to be simply a low battery.
