Honda model lookup help please?

Postby dart451 » Sat Dec 09, 2017 4:20 pm

Hi,
Can't seem to find a lookup for this Honda engine. It's a G240 and it has 0XE4 stamped above this number GCAKK-118442 on the side of the block. Tried Honda and Jack's to no avail...

That would be a GX240U1 QXE4 GCAKK-118442

GX240U1-QXE4 IPL @Jack's

or

GX240U1-QXE4 IPL @ Honda Engines

With honda don't even WORRY about that - all you need is the serial number and type number off the block, the model takes care of itself (as long as you know the base model) The U1 is a sort of trim code , and most often it is not on any of the labels at all unless the labels were speced to show that data. if you have the full and complete serial number , the honda DDiN lookups will automatically determine the type code and model for the most part - *sometimes* you may need the type code (also engraved on block) but from those two numbers you can always find the correct parts - even if someone "swapped out" a blower housing or starter or whatever else you might otherwise use to determine model.

The first part of the serial (GCAKK-118442) is the model code then use the type code to narrow it the right IPL. Note: Not all serial numbers are recognized. For example the IPL covers all of GX240U1 QXE4 and it is easy to mistake Q for an O. Their dot engraving isn't the greatest system but is way better then those labels that fall off or become unreadable we deal with.

On Jack's just enter the model code and search. It will pull a list of type codes that matches the model code. From there you select the matching type code. Don't worry about the serial number unless there is multiple serial ranges noted then if present select the one yours falls within.

On the Honda engine if I use the serial number part comes back as invalid but I get that a lot anyways so I just enter the model code and search to get the engine model and switch over to searching the model by type code.

But on either site you need to have both codes to get the right IPL. A little more involved but simple once you know what they are wanting. I prefer the Honda site as the IPLs will have serial number breaks withing the IPLs if needed. BTW the serial posted appears to be short one digit. Most are seven digits.

Does anyone know if a 31610-Z5J-801ZC control box will fit this motor? From looking this up on Jack's, it shows a 31610Z5K802ZA control box. This box is $152.00 from Jacks but the 31610-Z5J-801ZC is only 29.00. They look exactly alike and all the box does it give the engine ignition and a starter key...

I would be verifying the circuit breaker and fuse in that cheap one. IPL your engine indicates it has a 1A breaker and a 5 fuse. The cheap one appears to have a 3.5A breaker and a 15 fuse; not 100% on this.

Thank you KE4AVB! Don't think I can verify the breaker and fuse without purchasing the cheaper one. Oh well, I already got the expensive one approved through tiller owner so I guess we're good...

Just wondering why you are replacing the whole control. Not questioning your reason as it could be badly damaged; just curious.
