Kickback

Postby dunoon2 » Thu Feb 01, 2018 4:03 pm

I just came back from looking at a 12.5hp Briggs INTEK, Manual start on a log splitter, This thing kicked back and smashed his hand into the recoil guard and broke 2 fingers. Anyway of course I first checked the key everything was good, then I removed the shroud to check the coil and everything looked OK too. Any suggestions? Where do I go? Thanks

I suspect that either valves are out of adjustment disabling the ACR function or the ACR on the camshaft has broken. I suspect that engine has the 793880 camshaft which is known for the ACR breaking.

ACR = Automatic Compression Release

I once got a free self propelled cub cadet mower because it would kick back on pull start. It was just a loose valve adjustment
