Question on old Briggs 5 HP with auxillary drive shaft

Postby creia » Sat Mar 24, 2018 1:17 pm

I am considering purchasing an old 1974 Briggs 5 HP horizontal-shaft that has an extra auxillary drive (reversing?) shaft protruding through the sidecover. I like the engine as it is the era/style I want, however, I do not need or want the reversing shaft feature. I know that I could just cut off the protruding extra shaft, however, I want it to LOOK nice as well. It it just as simple as removing the internal (extra) drive shaft/gears and installing a single shaft sidecover off of a Model 130202 or 130232? Or is this engine not (so easily) convertible?
Thanks for the help,
Michael :)
Edit: here are the engine numbers: 130292 0141-02 74112107

you'd need a new cam and side cover - aux. shaft is part of the camshaft and turns at 1/2 speed of the crank

Thank you Brian.
Will a "standard" cam (Briggs part # 211117) from a 5 HP Model 130202 be a direct swap?

Michael :)

Should be - only difference between the aux shaft cam an the standard cam (given identical model and build style) would be that long bit of cam that sticks out through the cover.
