Is that something to be concerned about? Are we better off getting the Genuine Briggs & Stratton keys?

I just replaced a key on a small tecumseh with aftermarket. I had to gently file it to get it to fit in slot after breaking the first one trying to tap it in. And not so funny was that it turned out the crankshaft threads were damaged enough that nut can't be tightened. I thought I had enough good thread but it turned out to be covered by cup and washer.

I don't want to have to file anything. Sounds like the Genuine keys might be worth the extra $$$.

38racing, did you find a die to chase the crankshaft with?

By the way, I keep wanting to say 3800racing because of my Buick. :D

I used aftermarket flywheel keys for years with no problem. You don't even need a key if you are careful in positioning and holding flywheel while tightening.

I did actually recut but I think what happened was that crank end threads came off with the nut . I was using a replacement nut.
