The problem with drawing power off the coil is that it is designed to work intermittently, when the poinnts open current flow is interrupted, the magnetic field collapses and a high voltage is induced in the secondary winding. Hooking the fuel pump to it defeats this process as there is continuous current flow so the coil cannot work as designed. Replace the coil and find a switched 12v source for the pump.

Actually, I'm not sure why he's got a wire to the coil! The original wires are all in tact...the fuel pump is working great without the wire to the coil so I think I'm going to eliminate that wire...
