kohler aegis starting issue

Postby plotthound » Mon Sep 03, 2018 7:38 pm

so my 2012 argo HDI has a kohler 775 in it for an engine.when I first bought the machine in 2014,sometimes when starting I would only get a click on the 1st starting attempt but would crank over on the second attempt.so I figured what the heck, lets throw a nice new battery in it but still had the same result.changed the starter but the problem was still there.cleaned up all the battery cables and electrical connections I thought might be the problem plus put electric grease on them but the issue was still there.this has got to be an electrical problem but damned if I can find it.what could cause this?

If it has done from day one it might simply be a voltage drop at the starter solenoid that is the problem. I know some JDs solenoid shift starters had to have a relay added to the starter solenoid circuit to overcome the problem.

Basically that what it is in a way. It just shortens the electrical path so full voltage reaches the solenoid quickly without any voltage drops caused by long wire runs and connections. The smaller secondary relay consumes less current so voltage drops to it are less likely to affect its switch over to activate the main solenoid (relay).
