Are these intakes known to warp? I rebuilt the carb and doubled up on the gaskets. Its still warped on the intake side of the carb. I see light all the way through it when holding it up to light.

first I've heard of it. sure you've got the right gaskets? if it's nylon composite manifold, they may require o-ring gaskets Other that that warp may be caused by over-tightening the hardware.

I have only seen a couple warped badly but it does happen to some degree on all of them. As mention over tightening of the carburetor to intake mounting hardware and heat if missing the exhaust muffler shield. Over tightening is easily done considering the max allowed torque is 45 in. lbs. (5.0 Nm). Now the intake to cylinder screws are torque to 80 in. lbs. (9.0 Nm).

They are more prone to splitting. To only solution if double up gaskets don't seal it is to replace the manifold and the two seals for the cylinder heads too.

are you sure a gasket hasn't dropped down on one side during installation?

I haven't even seen a split one in years. Are you referring to the mating area between the carb and manifold or at the head? Or the air box elbow?
