Converting an old Tecumseh to electronic ignition

Did Tecumesh ever manufacture a replacement ignition coil that could (easily) replace the one used with points and condenser like Briggs did? I've got an old 1972 HS40 aluminum block that instead of replacing the points and condenser I would rather switch it over to electronic ignition. We do these conversions on all of our old Briggs engine projects. The difference is that on the old Tecumsehs the coil is "internal" under the flywheel, while on the Briggs it is "external", mounted above and outside the flywheel.

Nope they did not - only thing that may work to do as you want would be the Atom/ Mega-Fire modules (Oregon has a universal fit version, part number 33-053 that works well in my experience, and small enough that you may be able to modify the old breaker box - the stator that holds the points - to fit the module into, but I dont think I ever did that... but if it could be done it'd be virtually undetectable)

So having watched it I see it was previously an electronic unit. Wonder if the internal magnets in the flywheel could still trigger the abs if it was .012 from flywheel.

Micheal may he hasn't fully come out of hibernation yet.

I haven't work many Tecumseh as they were on their way out here when I started working on small engines. But if I understand correctly the igniter system should work fine but you might need to use reverse polarity.

And yes Tecumseh actually has a few engines with under the flywheel electronically trigger coils, just don't know which ones.

It looks like I'll be replacing points and condenser on this one and no upgrade to electronic ignition/coil.
