Metal shielded plug caps (792597 ?)

Postby wristpin » Tue May 28, 2019 5:48 pm

I have a distant memory of a notification of an issue with the metal screened plug caps . May have been at a service update meeting. Seem to think that we were told to discard them.
Am I dreaming it!!??

Hi Wristpin and Roy

If these metal shielded caps are to be discarded, what do we replace them with? I've just been replacing them with the same cap from Briggs.

All the best,

I do have a couple questions about these metal caps as I only seen one here. The coil itself has failed and I just it with regular coil as it was an option in the IPL.

Do these caps contains a resistor or they just straight through resistance wise? If they contain no resistance and if the lead is long enough I just install a regular boot and terminal, probably the 90 degree version.

Also are they just for impact resistance or do they serve another purpose?

Either the 792597 was superseded to 793351 which is quite expensive compared to the previous part @ 4x the price. Must be one those China tariff items here.

For some reason some but not all walk behind mower engines were equipped with them to suppress electromagnetic interference, maybe some OEM's specified them. If they give problems and they do we turf them.
