Briggs flywheel torque

Postby 38racing » Fri Jul 26, 2019 6:36 pm

A list I found shows 85 ft lbs for a 28 L head but 100 for the 28 OHV. i recall seeing but forget why it's different for such similar engines. Looking about I note tha for my Tecumseh tvt691 vtwin it's only 58.

Actually the torque specs for the 280000, 310000, and 330000 series OHV flywheel was changed over 7 years ago per APSI 82 and APSI 89 to as follows:

Prior to Datecode 120701*******
Increase torque to 110 ft lbs use steel key PN 796335.

After Date code 120630******* 110ft-lbs use aluminum key.

Flywheel and crankshaft redesigned after 120630 and not interchangeable.

thanks just took me almost 2 hours to pop one from a 28 OHV. It's one that I put on my own wound stator based on a forum thread. Had it as 2 ac leads into a regulator. Had been working on the mower I sold to a friend all last summer I thought , but he was having battery discharge issues this year. Found that stator was only showing 1.5 volts ac so I pulled it. From appearances I don't see any burnt stuff. I measure 1.5 ohms across the leads. Haven't found 0 from either lead to anything else. Engine had a dual original and tractor is wired for dual even with the electric PTO. I got the tractor with a seized engine that had the 10 amp regulated but that engine is labelled 18 hp and made 2011. Tractor is labelled 17.5 and only IPL I can find indicates it's about 2004. For now a dual will go back on it.
