Honda GXV120 coil question

Postby cadman60 » Sun Jan 04, 2015 6:25 pm

I'm repairing a Honda HR194 PXA lawn mower for a friend. It has a Honda GXV120 engine on it that didn't have any spark. Can someone tell me what the gap is between the coil legs and the flywheel? Also, is this measurement taken with the coil legs lined up with the flywheel magnet? This is the first Honda engine I've worked on so I don't have any specs for it. Thanks for your help.

Air Gap .016" +/- .008" Your thickness gauge should be able to place over legs of the coil. Avoid the flywheels magnet when making this adjustment per Honda.
You can also download the shop manual from the following site http://www.honda-engines-eu.com/web/eec-public-site/shop-manuals. These are not full service manuals but do have a lot of info you need.

Just working on one of these and set coil gap. Did as usual by rotating until magnet pulled coil against gauges. Then found this link. What's Honda's reason for not setting at the coil?

Probably to do with the gaps at the ends on the magnet but that is just a guess.
