Briggs top no load

Postby Gerry » Thu May 07, 2020 3:34 pm

Working on a 40N877 0052-G1 180111YG went on PartSmart and they list top no load speed as 1900 RPM's also found the same thing when I Googled. Is it really that low and with an idle of about 1700 RPM's?

Thanks

Yeah briggs parts catalog shows top no load 1900.. but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, with alternator needing to be tested at 3600 ..

HOWEVER, the top no load may be the equipment manufacturer's specification (what was this engine originally equipped to?) - So, it is not particularly alarming.. If the engine has since been re-purposed to power something than what it was originally built for, then you can always re-spec (change out governor spring and re-adjust) to whatever the needed top no load RPM is going to be.

Edit to add: Appears it was originally equipped for a John Deere E120 (Which Ive never heard of that model - starting with an E.. ) , JD parts sheet for E120 shows

Thanks, its on a John Deere 42 inch rider. Only got 22 hours on it.

Edit: Yes it's on a E120 { first I seen also} I got it idling at about 1775 and TNL 3500 sounds good.

That is generally what I finding for the 3400-3600 Top no load. Btw the Hydro has a max input speed of 3600 rpm. Idle speed is 1750 rpm+- 100 rpm
