Kohler charging

I have a Kohler sv590-3220 does any one know it the REGULATOR/RECTIFIER 12/15A HALF-WAVE 25 403 35-S will shut off it no voltage IE Battery disconnected. Engine will die it battery removed. Amperage when charging drops very quickly even on low battery. no bad connections great continuity from regulator to solenoid to battery.
