Any harm to bypass it? if it's possible. Don't think mine is working the engine is very hard to start.

The 12 757 33-S solenoid can be replace with a plain fuel screw. You might notice a loud boom as you shut down the engine as raw fuel.air hits the exhaust. If you have access to Amazon you can search for Prime Line PN 7-01865. It be the new short 2 wire version of the long single wire but they operate the same. My Amazon account showing it is $39 including shipping.

BTW this is what the original solenoid looks like.

I find running synthetic oil and letting engine idle a bit before shutdown seems to reduce boom occurrence on units without the solenoid.

Thanks guys, so if this goes bad it could be a reason the engine is hard to start ?

Not really , no - depends on what is happening exactly - "Hard to start" covers a lot of bases... If this solenoid goes bad, it might start right up (on choke and while cranking) and then stall out as soon as choke comes off, key returns to "run" and/or engine comes up off idle.. I've had them that would start and run just fine at dead idle and die as soon as you try to rev it up..

If it cranks forever before it even wants to fire up at all, then probably should look elsewhere.. If it eventually starts and stays running once it does start, also likely not this solenoid - It is not a fuel shut-off.. It is an anti-afterfire. All it does is block off fuel flow into the main nozzle of the carburetor when engine is shut down, in order to prevent fuel from loading up in the exhaust and causing a backfire out the exhaust.. so if it fails (in most cases) it simply blocks fuel flow through the main nozzle, but does not block fuel through the idle circuit, which is why they'll continue to run at dead idle.

It will backfire about half the time no matter where the throttle is at during shutdown. Guess I can look at fuel pump or carb...maybe letting fuel bleed out?
