is there a decent replacement for the flip lock style stihl saw fuel filler caps?my stihl 260 cap has given me nothing but trouble since new 12 years ago.the damn thing will not line up and lock properly unless i manually turn the lower section with the holes in it with a knife or screw driver.today when i fueled it up i almost lost my mind trying to get it locked in place. thanks

I don't like them either, I have had a wet pant leg more than once.

Ever replaced the cap as it might just be a defective one?

plotthound:

Go over to this link and ask your ?'s about the Stihl flippy cap. Stihl experts will chime in.
I've seen your complaint posted at this site but I do not remember their suggestions.
If a guy answers by the name of Harley, listen up.
Your issue with the cap is not a new one. Watch out and don't get a China clone cap.

Hi PH

My experience with these caps is if you twist an pull, you end up fighting with them to get them back in again. What I have found is if you turn them counter-clockwise as far as they will go before pulling on them, you'll feel a small detent as the cap locks in the open position. Once the cap has locked in the open position, it will stay there until you install it back into the opening and turn it clockwise to close it again. If you don't feel the detent on opening, you have a bum cap, whit is what it sounds like you had. All the best,

Sky

Skywatcher has it right, get a new cap (Stihl) and install it correct.
My personal saw is a MS360 never had a problem till I lent it to my brother.
He messed the cap up.
Installed it wrong.

Got a new one, been ok since.

Apparently the cap for the chain oil can have same issue. Just saw a video on it.
