Odd MTD Drive Cable Issue

Postby Seakaye12 » Fri Oct 16, 2020 12:02 pm

Hello; Thanks for reading my post.

I am replacing the drive cable on a Yard Machine MTD Front Wheel Drive Walk Behind Model 12A-446U729.

From the Numbers on the old Cable (746-1146) it would seem to be a simple deal; order the cable and install.

However, the old cable has the spring at the transmission end....the Z connector at the Handle. The illustrations for the replacement 746-1146 cable shows it the other way around.

I don't understand what is going on.

See a couple of attached pictures and thanks for the help!

Probably just a design change. Do you see it creating a problem?

I'm not sure if there would be a problem or not. I want to avoid ordering the replacement cable and then find that it will not work. I thought that if it was a common design-change thing that people here would be aware of it....seeing that MTD Yard Machine mowers are so common.

Anyone else run into this?

The truest measure of society is the how it treats its elderly, its pets, and its prisoners.

OK; Good enough. I will order one.

Seems odd to have that flimsy spring out in the open; I wonder what prompted the change?
