Looking for "old school" Briggs recoil pull handles

Postby creia » Sun Nov 15, 2020 7:58 pm

Briggs part # 395004 and # 393152
I am in need of some of the older style rubber pull handles for the Briggs 3HP flatheads. These are the kind that used a steel pin to secure the rope- not the newer style that uses a snap in cap. The 3 HP uses the smaller rubber pull handle, not the larger one like what was used on the 5 HP. I have looked on eBay and contacted numerous sellers that "appeared" to be selling old style but it turned out they were not.(Their ads even showed some pics on the packaging of instructions on how to wrap the rope around the pin!?) :?
Does anybody have any NOS to sell or a source to purchase these from?
Thank you,
Michael

i checked the part numbers you provided and both are available from Briggs. Small dealers may not carry these but could acquire in about two days.

A reputable dealer should stock them, not everybody likes the new plastic ones.

Yes, they are available, HOWEVER...
...they are only the ones with the plastic snap-in caps that secure the rope. Evidently, the "new" ones still used the same part # as the "old" ones.

The "new" ones do have a RUBBER handle, however, the snap in cap is plastic and they no longer use a pin to secure the rope (it now uses the cap)

Update: It looks like I have finally located 4 of them, :D however, I could still use a few more.
