Pop ups

Postby RoyM » Tue Dec 15, 2020 12:30 pm

Recently I have been getting a pop up wanting me to buy a pop up blocker every time I open a thread. This is getting VERY annoying. Anything I can do about it short of going on a rampage?

Depends which web browser you are using. Here I am using FF with No pop up turn on along with NoScript and Adblock Plus so I don't see any anything on my end. Might on your end.

Make sure you get the correct adblock plus (it is all I use, and not at all annoyed by popups) here is their help center https://adblockplus.org/redirect?link=h ... lang=en-US

you should find info to install that add-on to your firefox from there.

I wanted to mention it because there was actually a "addblock plus" using a very similar looking icon , but it installed malware instead of adblocking.. luckily it was only installed on my mom's chromebook, so it was a simple matter to get rid of it and install the right one.. So, I'd not depend on looking through the app store/ extensions list in your browser, but go direct to the website adblockplus.org instead..

Good point.

Years ago if you typed in Whitehouse.com instead Whitehouse.gov you redirected to a porn site.

Not related to our website but I got a fingerprinter block notice from FF this morning while surfing CNN. Apparently they have started tracking us for advertising purposes.

Bob I got site I visit that send as many 200+ ads at me when I turn off NoScript and Adblock Plus so the less than 10 ads I get here isn't too bad. But we cant block all the ads everywhere we surf as some are imbeded in video player link like the akamaihd.net script.

The problem I have with ads is they are not for anything I want or could afford. But the ads does help keep this site free for users. At one your local TV stations didn't seem to sync their ads times and you just switch stations but now it seems ads are on all of them at the same time.

OH I get sites complaining about me running AdBlock Plus so they are digging into what I am using to view their sites which is why I run NoScript so I can restrict thier access to my system somewhat.
