Kohler CV730-0006 Carburetor rebuild kit PN

Postby SUKI » Mon Dec 21, 2020 11:05 am

I have a customer with a Kohler CV730-0006 engine that has an accelerator pump version carburetor. According to PSW (Kohler Plus) it has a 24 853 90-S but the repair kit listed is for a non-accelerator pump version. I tried looking the carburetor online and it shows the accelerator pump version.

Note: The carburetor is not at hand so I can't personally look it over for identifying marks. I did see one Kohler engine earlier this year with a Walbro that an accelerator pump but don't know if it is the same carburetor.

Ahhh, I see it now. Too bad they got to order two kit to do the rebuild. It makes more sense to have just a all in one kit.

If your carb didn't have the pump you would be paying for parts you don't need.

Understand that but when you have to buy the two kits you are still having to throw away parts. so it a waste either way.

Just some general info about a CV730 carb from recent experience.

I bought a clone carb for a CV 730 for Approx $28 and it ran ok.
Had to extend the length of the solenoid wire and slightly ream out the upper throttle rod hole.

I took the OEM Nikki carb apart carefully and saved the fuel bowl gasket, easily made the little top plate gasket, ran carb through a USonic, tag wired the itty bitty holes, re-installed and it ran great. No kit required. I think I seen where maybe 3 different kits were required for a complete NEW rebuild and a OEM carb was around $230.
It was needing some choke to run before so as to not surge and hunt.

The cv730's carb is not user friendly to remove from some of the Kohler engines first time you go to flogging such. I removed the carb's engine studs so as to lift the carb up instead of coming off with the studs in place.

Some of them engines used a Walbro carb.

Here is a link where you can review carb rebuild info.
