Tecumseh 10HP fuel line size??

Postby dart451 » Wed Feb 24, 2021 1:19 pm

Working on an old generator with a Tecumseh 10hp engine, HM100-159221K. The fuel line that goes from the top tank, behind the flywheel is narrower than a standard 1/4" fuel line which will not fit. Anyone know what size hose I need so I can thread the hose through the small opening to feed the carburetor? The existing hose has turned into a gummy Bear! I tried a smaller all rubber hose but I can't get it to seal because the clamps won't clamp it hard enough... Thank you.

If the rubber line you tried fit well, use one of these type hose clamps, https://www.amazon.com/Selizo-Including ... 184&sr=8-4

Just had that issue on a 8hp snowblower. Procedure was to put a 1/4 short piece of bolt in end of old line and new. Tape the joint and pull through. But new line is not tight on the bolt . so this time I used a 5/16 bolt. But as you said new line also greater od. So when pulling through it separated. Hindsight it may have jammed on gas tank bracket but only option was pulling the shroud. Pita.

Most likely that is the 1/4ID x 7/16 OD line (Oregon 07-016 braided or Stens 115-022 Smooth)

This is a challenge on all of the old Tec flatheads with the fuel line routed behind the flywheel... :x
I have found that not all 1/4" ID fuel hose is created equal. Some (generally higher quality/higher cost)fuel lines have a smaller OD than others. Although I am not a big fan of "Tygon" fuel line, that COULD be an option for you as I believe that the OD on these 1/4" lines is smaller than the rubber hose ODs.

Hi Dart

Tecumseh's OEM fuel line is NLA, but they do sell a suitable replacement P/N 30705 measuring .250" ID by .440" OD. It's a braided neoprene rubber hose and the Oregon 04-020 hose clamp fits it perfectly. The only draw back is the price of the stuff, the last box I got was close to $40.00 CAD for a 6 foot length. Although the Oregon 07-016 fuel line is supposedly the direct replacement for this line, the last box I got looks and feels like a braided PVC line which gets as hard as rock when cold and just about melts when hot. The Stens 115-022 black PVC hose goes hard with gasoline and in my experience becomes unmanageable after about a year.

Stens 115-295 is a good flexible braided neoprene rubber fuel line which stays flexible at most temperatures, but with its ½" OD is just that little bit too big for Tecumseh engines. For every other ¼" hose application, it's my go-to fuel line, but it does require the Stens 120-114 ½" hose clamp as the Oregon 04-020 7/16" clams are just that little bit small so are a very tight fit. I don't know if your local Auto-Zone, NAPA or the like stores carry anything that might meet your measurement requirements. Hope this gives you a useable idea or two. All the best,

Briggs fuel line part number 395051R is a perfect fit on those old tecumseh engines.. the O.D. of the line is a bit smaller, they use (If I recall right) 795001 hose clamp or at least I know part number starts with a 7 ... maybe it was 791005 ...

Hi Again

Just looked at B&S part # 395051R on Parts tree and sure enough it says .250 x .440 right on the hose. Just checked my supplier and a 50 foot roll isn't much more than a 6 foot length from Tecumseh. Looks to me like that's the way to go, so I've added a roll to my next parts order. Thanks for that bit of info BG. All the best,
