Murray push mower stop cable search?

Postby dart451 » Sun Feb 28, 2021 11:10 am

Wonder if anyone has a better way of finding a stop cable for a Murray push mower? It's has a 21 1/2" blade so I assume it's a 22" cut. The Model and serial number is unreadable. The existing stop cable is 51" long with a insulator 42" long. The top has a "T" end and the engine side has the usual "S"

Pretty tough to help you without a model number. Is anything printed on the cable?

Hi Dart

Take a very close look at the entire length of the cable (may need a magnifying glass to get a better look) and you should find a number stamped or printed somewhere along the plastic conduit. This number will give us a very good starting point. All the best,

With Murray the number is usually 6 digits. The T on upper end is common for murray. To get correct length you can splice an area of exposed cable or move mounting point on handle. I'll check my supplier for something close to that size.

Ok, I was able to get this number off the cable...I think it's complete: 2340 768414F

Hi Again Dart

Judging by the numbers you've given and the part numbers provided by 38, I'd say the 2340 you found is most likely 2840 and is the last 4 digits of 672840 which is the first cross-ref number suggested by 38. I'm assuming you're in the US, so either buy OEM 672840MA from B&S power (BGSengine may even have one in stock), or any number of aftermarket supplied cables.

Stens = 290-511
Banta = 285-633
Oregon = 60-033-0
Rotary = 10695
Laser = 672840

Hope this gives you something to work with,

Sky
