Briggs needle/seat

Postby Gerry » Mon May 03, 2021 12:11 pm

Working on a Craftsman tiller 917.291480 Briggs 126402-0206-E1 020906 FE (?) The OEM needle is small and has a viton tip . The IPL calls for replacement part number 398188 which is needle and round rubber seat. The replacement needle wont even fit into the brass seat of the carb its larger in diameter. If I pull the brass seat out the rubber seat is too small to stay in the hole. If i removed the brass seat and installed part number 799177 seat I think it is bigger. Has anyone ever come across this problem before. Dont want to buy a new carb unless I got to.

Thanks in advance.

That is odd, I get the same results. With a viton needle tip, the carb should not have a replaceable seat. I wonder if it was changed at some point. Maybe double check your engine numbers.

Thanks Roy, checked and rechecked the numbers. I called the owner back with facts and he has been in the carb as I thought. I am thinking that Briggs 394682 might do the trick or needle 797139. When I took the carb apart the needle fell out and the tab on the float is broken. Didnt see any clip that would of held the needle.

Well needle 797139 worked, still dont know why the Briggs IPL is different, the carb has Briggs Trademark on it so I know its OEM made....maybe for another app. Also just out of curiosity I order the float and it was different also.
