What's The Nipple For?

I cleaned the carb, the jet was clogged. Runs good now.

There's a white plastic nipple on the fuel inlet side of the carb. There's also a fitting on the back of the air filter housing. Is the nipple a vent to atmosphere that should be connected to the aif filter to keep dirt out? No connection when I received it.

Should it be plugged in this application? Meaning, will dirt get in through it?

Nah there should be a check valve - I had problems with one of these where check valve (nipple and parts are not replaceable) was not working properly, rather than replace carburetor, I simply plugged off the port.. but as they come from the factory just as they are, I didn't bother plugging the others..

No check in the ones here. But there a check valve in the primer base. Also there is a screen wire over the out port of the primer.
