Hummmmmmm,
So as faster continuous cranking speed lets it start easier!!!!!!!!!!!!

that's my though right now. so not enough air flow? air leak as suggested before but it's not showing signs of running lean. cam or valve issue?

I wonder if it is choking issue. I have other engines where the choke were too open to choke properly. Especially some of the older Tecumseh engines. Might try increasing the choke plate restriction temporarily.

just completed leakdown. surprised that at 30 psi I'm seeing basically 0 and crank really wants to rotate. just to test I rotated to open exhaust and it leaks 100 %
I'm going to adjust exhaust back to .004. could I have too much compression to get enough rpm on pull chord?

OK. exhaust back to 004. I clearly see the exhaust compression release bump BUT with no carb or muffler attached using electric starter I'm seeing 175 psi. I'm puzzled as to how compression release is failing if I see the exhaust valve opening unless maybe it's opening too late due to cam issue? going to check piston position when it's open for release.

OK. exhaust valve lift is about 300 thousand. release lift is about 65 thousand and peaks at 2 in btdc and is fully closed at 1/2 in btdc.

I think your would see quite bit difference in compression using the recoil as the starter maybe spinning faster causing the ACR to kick out.

So I'll have to get it the shroud back on and redo the compression test with the recoil.

60 psi after 5 recoil pulls.

so sort of back together. choke closed. 3 primes 3 pulls no start. 2 more primes 3 pulls nostart. connected coil wire to sparkplug. 1 pull and it started. going to let run 5 minutes and then I'll update.
update: no choke no prime. 5 pulls no start. apply choke. 2 pulls and backfire from carb. open choke .2 pulls .puffs of vapour from carb. next pull starts up. going to replace valve cover as getting oil mess. then test somemore.
update: shut off. no choke no prime. up to 5 pulls no start. 1 prime. see gas at intake. 1 pull .see puff out carb. next pull either puff or starts. if no start on 2nd it starts on 3rd. shut off. apply choke. 1 pull puff out carb. 2nd pull puff out carb. open choke. 1 pull and starts. done testing for today.
update : actually did test somemore. hooked kilowatt meter in 120 start. want to test watts draw. thinking ahead to using booster/inverter for mobile restart. 5 tries with electric with no choke and no prime fires right up. back to recoil just for heck. same basically as before but 1st pull with choke it's a muffler backfire.
