I'm not too sure what I am looking at, but it makes a big boom Looks like you was poking it with a pole, which I think was a smart thing to do.

Here are shots of the front and back.




The big tube is a mortar that will be loaded with black powder and wads and ignited with a 209 primer. The hammer is cocked and locked behind the l shaped sear on the rod attached to the target. Hit the target with a rifle bullet and it releases the hammer...setting off the mortar.
