Generally I don't problem with Stihl fuel lines but it does happen. As a general rule here these fuel lines are always check during carburetor rebuilds. And mentioning carburetor rebuild with Stihl now owning a controlling interest in Zama most of those rebuild kit are none existence now as My dealers can't even get them when I provide them with the Stihl part numbers; just complete carbs. I threw out about 30 carbs last year that were rebuild-able due to lack of the repair kits. A shame to have to do it. Now the Walbro carbs are still repairable as Stihl has gotten to them yet.

Now when it come to Stihl dealer do your research some are reasonable and other are ridiculously priced on parts. I got one here that is nearly doubled on prices compared to the one I used now.

But I would not carry anything else in for warranty due to them not a well trained Stihl techs. Supposed to go thru Stihl certification but the one I got recently couldn't even find a bad spark plug. I had to.

My apologies bsengine. I squirted some fuel back and forth gently through the fuel line while it was in-situ and assumed it was OK but when the line was removed from the tank some fuel was pumped in with the other end of the line closed and the split became evident.
Today I assembled the saw with the PVC "repair" inside the old fuel line and it started and ran well, it's a gutsy saw. Onbviously the coil is OK and the carbie cleanout and new kit installed is working OK.

The nearest Stihl dealer is an hour drive away and they are excellent. I don't care whatever they charge but they always supply me with first class parts and the chief mechanic is a good mate (we are in the same vintage motorcycle club).Another great benefit is I have access to their scrap bin for parts and I often get stuff like old mowers, brushcutters, chainsaws that they consider "not worth repairing" which usually I can repair without much trouble and use/abuse on my rural property until they fall apart. Of course when they do a repair they must give the customer a guarantee - I don't need to worry about that.

I will try to buy a new genuine Stihl fuel line and impulse tube and now that I have worked on this saw it will not be too much trouble to pull it to bits again if my "repair" does fail.

Did some cutting and the saw ran perfectly after a little bit of carb adjustment.

Yesterday went to the dealer and the spare parts guy and I ended up in the back of the parts section going through some partitioned shelves stacked with old stuff, some in bags with mouldy labels, some loose, no particular order, everything just jumbled together, all of it stored away long before the stock was entered on their computer. Found a couple of fuel lines and one implulse line, although they are old they looked and felt in good condition. If the "repair" stops working the "new" bits will be fitted.
