Toro LX427 Deck issue

Postby SUKI » Tue Dec 03, 2024 7:53 am

Gentlemen if happen to come across a Toro LX427 with a deck belt issue just be aware that the Toro belt 112-5800 is a MTD 954-04045 which both a spec'd at 1/2 x 109" can be replaced with a shorter 1/2 x 108 belt. It is kinda pushing the limit as I would have to gone with one around 108-1/2 but I wasn't able to find a clutching belt in that size.

The problem here was sluggish deck engage due to the belt slippage especially at the lowest deck setting. Also the engagement idler arm showed signs of hitting the other idler pulley. Actually has a groove cut into it. The 108 is close to being too short at max deck height but didn't drag on the engine pulley when disengaged. Besides this customer need all the help he can get on the deck as it is used in full mulching mode.

Basically like another MTD deck that I work on here that specs a 103/1/4 belt where it needs 102" at times due to same slippage.

Are your belts measuring to spec? I had a mtd z turn and I could not get the belt on. My supplier checked and he had several belts that measured too short. Finally found me one made to spec. When there's a tension spring I've changed it's length to make up for longer/shorter belt.

That toro is made by mtd. I was working on the steering for a friend. The steering shaft bushing had worn. He replaced it but still had steering slippage. Turned out that his model used a different bushing that most mtds. It had more height. Missing the extra height allowed the shaft to lift and gears disengaged and bushing came out. I was going to add a spacer but I found correct bushing on amazon. Some other lxs apparently use the shorter bushing.

Yes they are measuring to spec or at least the v-belt measuring tool is saying they are at spec. and I have learn to trust it. It now has three extensions on it so I can measure those 180" TCU26297 belts I having to install sometimes. So that tool has now cost me over $200 to have it. And it is worth every penny of it too as it have saved a lot of money and time.

And I aware of the two different steering bushing and I stock both of them here.
