Valve Spring Removal Tool

Postby bill18163 » Thu Jun 08, 2017 9:20 am

I have a Ariens snow blower with a Tecumesh HMSK 80 engine. I am going to be removing the valves for a summer project and I need a recommendation for a spring removal tool. Just something to get the job done. Not real expensive. Or is there any way to do the job without a special tool? Thanks guys.

if you got a piece of strong scrap metal you can fabricate a 2-prong fork with a 1/4" gap between them and bend it to a suitable shape to lift and unhook valve spring and keepers.

You need to keep one of these in the back of your mind if you are ever going to work on more than one motor.

Briggs & Stratton 19063 VALVE SPRING COMPRESSOR TOOL

This type sure can save lots of time, especially when the engine is still on the equipment.

Keep a eye peeled on flea bay and one pops up every once in awhile reasonably priced.

Personally I use the following tool as I never know when I going run into an oddball setup like the stems with pins or split retainers.
